One day, I was just thinking about where am I going in life, what is my path, whom do I follow, what is right or wrong, what is good and bad and all these questions were just passing by in my mind.
One thought which strongly stuck to my mind was whom did I follow all these years? I became very conscious about that and started to think whether I am following my parents, or my teachers, friends, colleagues, guru and so on. Of course, the role model is needed. They show the path which many people have imagined impossible. It’s not uncommon these days, if we’re inspired by any of the skills, we just surf on Google and find a right person who does magic in that skill and we gradually watch them performing skill on YouTube and start walking in their way. I stress that we start walking in their way. We copy what they do! Doesn’t it sound strange when you realise that you actually copying the other person.
Well, we copy since we initially don’t know how to perform that skill and there’s nothing harm in copying unless you’re enjoying and aware of what you’re doing. What matters most is whom are you following? Just take a moment to think whomsoever you’re following is a right person to follow? We all do different things in our own way and we feel what we are doing is right because that’s the natural way how we do it. But is it the right way for you? To illustrate further, let me take an example. Let’s say your age is somewhere between 20-25 and you see an old man around 55 years of age saying that “I have achieved in my late 40’s and you have ample amount of time to do things you wish to do. Just relax and take your own time to do things.” Next morning, you see a boy who is just 13 and is an excellent performer in the same skill which you loved to master, amusing the audience in front of him. Now, if you consider the old man as your role model, you naturally become lethargic and hope for the time indeed good time to come to you. But if you get inspired by the young boy, you instantly become proactive and start walking towards your goal.
It’s not just limited to a skill. It can be your life, how you treat your kids or anything in that matter. It’s your wish to follow anyone you like. But before you follow, think how can you make a positive impact on yourself or others by choosing an appropriate role model. Because how you build yourself today, can transform you and the people around you tomorrow and you can be a role model for them. Choose your role model wisely. I will end up this article by asking you…
